Creating a positive self image and using affirmations are going to be great tools to start usin.
I think beauty is only skin deep and the outside looks make up only part of a person. If you do not have the confidence in yourself then you should not expect others to. We all like to believe we are perfect and we are not we just have to deal with what we have been given, cause in my eyes noone is perfect, but you can seem close to perfect by the way you act around others.
I completely agree with your podcast. I myself once had an eating disorder and I must say I believe it was because I compared myself to my friends. It is a bad habit to break, but now I live happy and healthy :)
I like this podcast. In today's society, we're so obsessed with being thin, and we do everything in our power to become physically attractive, but we rarely take time out to work on our mental health and our mental image of ourselves. You can be as thin as you like, but if you don't have any self confidence or a good feeling about yourself, all of that exercise will have been for naught. Feeling good about yourself means more than just have six pack abs.
This podcast is definitely true. People try to be like other people instead of being themselves and this is what eats them up inside and they do become so obsessed with trying to become something they are not that they end up ruining their lives and the lives of their loved ones. You need to accept who you are and love the person you are in order to succeed in today's world.
I have struggled my entire life with trying to be perfect. I am now 34 years old, I have had 3 babies in the last 4 years (the toungest is 2 months old), and I tell you what... I look at pictures of myself prior to these last few years and I can not believe I had such a problem with my body/overall image. I was absolutely beautiful.
This podcast hit home with me. I have learned to appreciate the good health I am in and even though I have gained a little weight, have a few wrinkles and 2 or 3 gray hairs now, I still think I am beautiful but in a different way.
I think people should look to the inside and all of the experiences in life for beauty.
gr8 thing!!!!
I've always had a ploblem with perfectionism, although I've never stressed over body image. I guess i could see how some people do, however. The podcast pretty much summed it up- you can do some things to modify how you look, but in the end, you have to accept who you are.
Creating self image is important i appreciate your opinion.
sure, that's the way i feel too. i worry about my weight so much, it's very hectic.
but i'm slowly learning to let that go. and even though i'm not perfect, i am as close as i can get and like my self still.
this week's podcast was really helpful.
thanks.
Confidence in yourself is definitely the key to succeeding. Confidence can help you to reach your goals and succeed in whatever you wish to do. The first key to loving what you do and others is to love yourself.
This was really helpful, it hit me in a special place. Stopping the dreaming is really important.
The podcost today is very postive. I have changed to look at myself to feel better and develop a more positive outlook even though I have a big tummy....")
I wish loving yourself was as easy as this podcast indicates. It is not, especially if you are dealing with depression or anxiety, as I am. When everything you see and everyone you meet is thinner than you are or talking about being thin, its very difficult to not think you are imperfect. I know that positive thinking is key, but sometimes its just not possible.
I think we all need to be reminded that we are not perfect once in awhile. Even those of use with a healthy body image have bad days. i thin kwe get so caught up in Hollywood and all of these unrealistic images that we forget what "real" people look like.
This podcast is SO TRUE. People obsess so much on how they look that they risk their own lifes just to look "pretty" or "hot".
I never obsess about my self-image, and chances are i'll never will. I take decent care of myself, health and image wise. If some random person on the street looks at me and whispers some backhanded comment to a friend, all I do is flip them off in my mind and keep on about my business.
I loved that the podcast also included men and boys not just women and girls. Regardless of gender we all can have issues when it comes to our own self-image. I think the tips that were given will do a lot to help all of us have a more positive outlook towards ourself.
This was an excellent podcast - the points made were very valid and relevant to my own life.
I think I have to fully agree. You must feel good about youself before you or anyone else will notice. The sujestive tips on here are excellent to follow. Not just for men or women but for all of us.
When you are stop focus on being perfect (whatever that image is in your mind), you are able to focus on others and that is when you can really shine and feel good about yourself!
Once again, this podcast tells it straight and gives a good message that more people need to hear. I'm just as guilty at dreaming about changing my body instead of actually doing something about it. This podcast pretty much just verbalized all the things i knew deep down but just try to ignore. It was good to hear it verbalized by someone else.
This has been one of the most positive and encouraging podcasts I have heard regarding perfectionism. I have listened to all this weeks' podcasts and this is my favorite because everyone can relate in spite of gender or age. One thing about perfectionism is it discourages us loving ourselves as we are. Looking in the mirror and loving you and what you see, is an amazing experience. It builds self-confidence and self-love which is vital to everyone. No, the first few times you start practicing the behavior to look at yourself, it is not easy because you will still tend to focus on your flaw but the longer you do this, the easier it is to find all the beauty you behold and not those flaws. I loved this and will probably come back later down the road and listen to it again. Thanks.
I have learned through a lot that feeling good about yourself is key. I have found that a lot of my depression and not feeling good was cured by eating healthy. That does help with body image. It is very true that when you feel good you look good.
However..there are many people who appear to look great to this superficial world..but they feel horrible inside.
To feel good and like what you see in the mirror no matter what size you are, you need a few things. You need to feel good inside. Meaning eating right so you feel well. You need to cut out the people who make you hate your body and yourself. Whether you are a supermodel or a grandma..you can't feel good if someone is always picking at you about the way you look and saying you are not good enough and never pretty enough.
Also learning to like yourself without getting an ego is imperative to liking what you see in the mirror too.
Not judging others and being ugly in your heart is also a good way to feel good about yourself. Don't compare yourself to others and make yourself feel bad..or make them feel bad or less. Just learn to change your thoughts and be a good person..this can go a long way to changing your body image and making you feel good about you.
Great podcast!!
I am so glad I found toolstolife, because I have been feeling hopeless of myself and my appearance. and just by listening to the audio made me feel good about myself and that is what really counts. now I can look in the mirror and I can actually except who I am, I will be here often.

I thought this podcast sent a really good message about how we can choose to form our own image of our bodies. The speaker correctly points out that we shouldn't be comparing ourselves to images within popular culture. Instead, we should embrace who we are and choose a positive attitude.
Great podcast!
